I won a Lipton BIKE!

It was a rainy and rather gloomy looking Tuesday morning and I was still feeling a bit beat up from my weekend trip as I sat down at my computer to lazily peruse my email. But then I spotted an email with a subject heading of ! "You won the Lipton bike!".

Now THAT got my attention!

Hi Cynthia,

You won the Lipton bike from my contest! Here's a link to my video revealing you as the winner: http://tinyurl.com/65jgtt

So, please get me your full name, shipping address, and I guess a shipping phone #, and I'll forward your info. onto Lipton.

Congratulations!

WOW! I let out an immediate WHOOP! Then ran to the bedroom to rouse hubby, who was sleeping late. This was BREAKING NEWS! Fortunately, my long suffering husband is used to my excitable outbursts.

I had entered a number of the Lipton Bike Giveaway blog contests. But I don't think I ever expected to really win. This is the biggest thing I've won ever! I spent chunks of yesterday chanting "BIKE, BIKE, BIKE!".

I won mine over at Everyday Goddess blog! You can even see a video of Liz drawing my name WHILE RIDING HER OWN BIKE! I can't imagine making a video while riding a bike, much less doing a contest drawing, but it's all there in the video, which is quite fun! I must say, Liz has been great... she's already forwarded my info to the Lipton contest representative and given me the contact info for same. I guess now I wait to hear from them. Or maybe the bike just arrives on my doorstep. I honestly don't know how these things work. I'll keep you posted!

Meanwhile, my husband started entering some of the blog giveaways as well! He even found a few new ones. I don't know if Lipton will give more than one to a household, but he didn't see any rules saying they wouldn't. Maybe if I get into riding, we'll have to look for a bike for him.

Speaking of which... I haven't ridden a real bicycle in about 30 years. I think I'm going to have to learn all over again! I actually looked up some reviews of the Fuji Crosstown 2.0 yesterday and they seemed favorable. And I found another, more detailed review here, again, sounds good. So with luck, it will be just the right bike for me. It will only be the third bicycle I've owned. My first one was small, red and with training wheels on. I actually ended up learning better without the training wheels. Later, as I grew, my parents got me a silver "English racer" style bike. I rode that one a lot.

I'm thinking that this will be a challenge... our streets here have some mondo potholes... and we have hills. Fairly steep hills. I live on one. I've never ridden on hills before AT ALL! So I did some Googling this morning and came up with a local bike club... and a bicycle safety site. I feel better already. When the bike arrives, help will be available.

  1. Hello and congratulations! That's fantastic =)

I started cycling last year for the first time in at least 20 years, and now I ride it everywhere. I was so scared at first (I live in Toronto, and we have some heinous potholes and the taxis are insane), but I got over it, and now cant imagine not riding everywhere. You'll have to post a picture of your new lovely when it arrives.

  2. Congratulations, Cythia. I'm looking forward to reading your first blog about riding the new bike...............:)

  3. Thanks Kelly and LisaN... I'm looking forward to getting it! I'll see if I can get hubby to take a picture once it's assembled. I may actually try riding it first on our little sidewalk and patio out back... that's flat.

Fortunately, I have a station wagon, so it's no big trick to put the seats down flat and stuff a bike in the back to take it somewhere.

I know I need to learn to ride again on the flat before I even think about tackling hills. I'm not sure the foot doctor will OK pedaling up hills, even on stationary bikes at the gym, I'm supposed to put the pedal in the middle of my foot and use NO resistance. And as I'm not supposed to walk up and down hill either... my riding may be a bit limited until my feet heal.

But I'm sure I can find some places.

  4. Jumping joy with you! Congrats! :)

  6. Congratulations. Good for you. I look forward to hearing all about it.

Until your foot heals, you may be able to get a bit of extra conditioning in by using a turbo trainer, a gizmo that turns your bike into a stationary bike you can ride in your living room, practice shifting up and down gears, getting used to the seat etc. They're not cheap but you can probably pick one up on ebay. Just to remind you, here you can see a pic of mine here: http://blubberbegone.wordpress.com/2007/07/31/turbotraining/.

    Happy cycling hon.

  7. Don't worry, Heidi and Jessica, I'll post once it gets here and I get to try it out! Presuming I can actually ride it!

Angie, we think alike. I couldn't think of what they were called, but I had heard of the turbo trainer thingie. If it's too difficult finding safe enough routes to ride around here, I may resort to one of those for a while. It would probably be better than slumping on the couch while watching TV, LOL!

  8. Have a look at http://www.bikeforums.net/ (The Clydesdale/Athena forum) for some amazing stories and inspiration for larger-than-average cyclists! They helped me start riding a bike aged 50 at >200lbs and <5'3". No question is too daft for them!!

  9. Thanks Cathy!

Wow, that looks like just the kind of forums I"m looking for! Especially the Clydesdale/Athena forum. I have bookmarked it for reference when the bike arrives!

The regional forums might be useful too!

  10. Yes I found them to be really supportive. Thanks for visiting my blog too. I use my blog really as an on-line diary and as a reminder of where I was, and how far I've come. It's easy to forget our achievements, if they are relatively small, but a reminder of them can keep us puddling along in the right direction!
Good luck with the goo loss! Maybe see you on http://www.bikeforums.net/

  11. You might! I'll probably wait until I actually have the bike to register... won't know what questions I have until then, LOL!

Not sure why you got caught in moderation with your second comment... seems to happen sometimes.
