Confucious say “You’ve fallen but you CAN get up.”

One of the RSS feeds I read sometimes is the Motivational Quotes of the Day page. OK, not all of them really ring with me, but this one on February 27th sure did! And I thought it was worth sharing.

Confucious - Chinese philosopher & reformer (551 BC - 479 BC)

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every time we do."

Whether it is your eating or your exercise, or some other goal you are striving for, this one works. Never let a bad dayfell you, just get up and make that next meal, next workout, next day better.

I slept way too long yesterday, and it killed me as far as eating went!

My normal plan for a rest day is to eat around 1600-1700 calories, because on heavier exercise days, I eat closer to 2200 calories and on lesser days, say Nordic Track days, I keep around 1900-2000 calories. To keep a 500 calorie a day average deficit for the week, I need to stay lower on the rest days. And this is normally not difficult.

But this past week, my calories crept upwards, and my eating got a little out of control yesterday as well. I think that having my body "fasting" for so long while I slept made me hungrier. While usually I am easily satisfied with my small meals, yesterday, I'd eat a meal, then keep nibbling on things like nuts, peanut butter, dried apricots. Yeah, calorie dense stuff. I also ate four squares of my dark chocolate when I had planned on one. Oops!

I ended up over 1800 calories. By that point, I actually felt OK with no further hunger and went to bed at a proper hour, missing a meal. One day like this won't kill my efforts, but a week like this past one is not ideal.

I fall, I get up. One day soon, perhaps I'll fall a little less often.
