Unplanned 10% meal

I'm sitting here just wondering WHY? Why did I do this to myself?

I needed to shop for veggies BADLY today, I didn't have a scrap of veggies left in the fridge. So I thought, here's a good time to use that Subway gift card hubby gave me and go have a salad for my 3rd meal and then shop.

Somehow, I mindlessly drove past Subway, all the way to the gym. So instead of turning around and going back to Subway, I thought "I can get a salad at Roosters." (Roosters is right next to the gym.)

Not a bad thought, but then, I went in, was seated, the waitress brought the menu and the specials list. And there was a tasty sounding Tuscan Chicken Salad (chicken breast, mixed greens, olives, avocado, red onion and parmesan.) Didn't sound that bad. The bad part was the "Add an appetizer and dessert for only $2.79" printed right underneath. And one of the appetizers listed was pot stickers, which I haven't had in a LONG time. And I caved in and ordered.

Potstickers arrived, two of them, small. Not all that tasty really and the sauce they were with was overly sweet. So that was a disappointment.

Salad arrived. OH MY. They must've dumped a quarter of the contents of a container of nasty Kraft Parmesan on it. (I suppose I should've known better than to expect a modest amount of fresh grated.) Definitely a disappointment. I could've fixed something much tastier and much healthier. Why didn't I? No groceries in the house.

The cheesecake was tasty, but the strawberry topping was awful.

I thought about shopping yesterday, after getting my fresh eggs home, but just felt too tired after running my various other errands to go back out again. I shouldn't have put it off.

As best as I can guess, the meal above was between 1000-1200 calories.

OK, well, what's done is done, and the dinner I have planned is light, grilled chicken breast, broccoli and maybe some red grapes for dessert. Hubby was going to have a left over piece of roasted acorn squash in addition. I'll probably take a pass on the grapes tonight, considering the above.

Here's to a better day tomorrow. And man, it HURT to put this up for everyone to see. Quite different than just privately logging in my software.

Fresh eggs!

Had a taste treat this morning... my primarily egg white omelet was made from fresh eggs!

It turns out that one of hubby's co-workers, Jim, has 16 chickens that are starting to lay like crazy with the days getting longer and he's not able to use up all the eggs right now. So he gave us almost FOUR DOZEN farm fresh brown eggs yesterday!

George (hubby) had mentioned that Jim might not have enough cartons, so as I'd emptied one out with my breakfast, after water aerobics, I drove up the hill to the weather service station and delivered the empty carton and took home the eggs. I got to thank Jim in person. We may be able to barter empty cartons for occasional fresh eggs in the future.

With these in the fridge, I may elect to have a lower carb day here and there and use a few more whole eggs in my omelet for a change, instead of egg whites. Though just using the whites today there was a noticeable flavor difference for the better!

There is also a difference for cooking time... the fresh eggs cook faster! So I had to make some quick adjustments to my omelet procedure on the fly. But quicker cooking means quicker eating. I'm good with it!

Because the store was out of my reduced fat Alpine Lace swiss cheese the other day, I bought some goat cheese instead. So I had an ounce of that in my omelet for the first time. Breakfast truly was good! I'll be looking forward to fixing my omelet tomorrow!
