And we are live!

Hello world and welcome to my fat loss blog!

Or Cynthia's little corner of personal fat loss hell made public, if you prefer!

I've thought for some time now about having a web page to log my weight loss efforts on, but to be honest, I felt kind of shy about it and wasn't really sure I wanted to do it. I thought of a name for my site back in 2006 and progressed little further.

Instead, I just got started trashing some of my fat! Putting the goo in the garbage, so to speak. And I did manage to reduce my weight considerably over the past year of 2007. I became somewhat discouraged last fall and blew it for a few months over the holidays and gained about 10 pounds back (mostly water), but I'm back on track for this years effort.

I hope to make it under 200 pounds this year!

I discovered the blog thing last year, while doing a body transformation challenge. While I may not have been overly successful at the challenge, I learned a lot, met new online friends and started reading some of their fat loss blogs. It was reassuring to read about other people's weight loss issues and fun to see what top fitness people were talking about. The idea of having my own blog started to steep again.

I think that going public will help keep me accountable and keep my fat loss project on track. Pretty important stuff, since it could take me another couple of years to reach goal!

So I looked into Blogger.com and Wordpress.com and it looked easy enough to start a blog. I did a little more reading on the topic and realized that it was possible to host your own blog with Wordpress software. That sounded like fun, domain names aren't terribly expensive and neither is hosting. Though I am sometimes a little technically challenged with web stuff beyond the basics, I thought I could manage it. If I can tackle losing 100+ pounds, I can host a blog, right? Hosting my own blog appealed greatly to my control freak self.

As it turned out, it really WAS simple to install the software and get going! Though it's a whole new world for me. I'm learning about themes, widgets, feeds, plug-ins, pings and all kinds of interesting things.

Disclaimer... I have the right to change the look of this blog at any time! But I think I'm happy for the moment as the theme I picked does offer loads of customization options, plus a cool little slide down shelf, which is where I've stashed some links to other blogs and websites for now. To access that, you'll see a little "open/close" link in the upper right corner of my home page... check it out!

Anyway, if you're still reading, I ask patience as I figure out what I'm doing with this blog. At age 50 and 229 pounds heavy, I've yet to give up hope of eventually getting lean and being a healthy weight. Obviously, I've not accomplished this miracle to date, but I've made a start.

G'night!

  1. H Cynthia - thank you for your kind words on my blog, it is much appreciated. As you know, putting yourself out there is tough....but I think that it will be easier to lose the weight in the long run because I know everyone is watching. The part of your blog that mentions your husband is right on - as much as I want mine to know what I am doing, admiting my weight to him was the hardest. I am lucky in that he won't get on the computer so he probably won't be reading about what I am doing! Thank you again for reading my blog...you can bet I will be keeping up with yours as well....a good support system is so crucial! Good luck - hopefully we can run into eachother at the RAC! Take care - Wend

  2. Yes, I agree, it's hard to be out here, but I think it will help me. My husband may or may not read on a regular basis, it's hard to say.

Lately I'm usually in the pool area at RAC... I've got plantar fasciitis, so can't do that much on my feet without the support of the water. But I need to get back to the weight lifting again.

Take care yourself and best of luck!
